Happy Birthday to Hannah and myself (Sarah)! We kicked off our special day by eating another fantastic breakfast made by the ladies in the kitchen. While taking our dishes to the kitchen we were welcomed by a couple of Sykes monkeys who wanted our leftovers.
We then had a short walk over to Moffat Bible College where we attended chapel with the students. After chapel, we headed over to the cafeteria for chai time, which is just a time for drinking chai tea and fellowship (which are both very important in the Kenyan culture). I (Meagan) played a game of checkers with one of the students who was apparently very good, but had some different rules from what I’m used to.

Then we all split up and attended some of the classes at the college with the students. Our classes ranged from New Testament, Ethics and Pastoral Epistles to Intro to Counseling and a couple others. We were surprised to see how similar the content was to the classes we take at Messiah. The students were all very welcoming and nice (some even asked us to take their notes for them which was quite fun). After attending classes we came back to have lunch at the guest house before we quick headed off to our next adventure.
After finally (maybe) eating the chapatis that we made, we headed over to AIC Kijabe Hospital and the Bethany Kids Hospital. Our lovely tour guide/friend named Billy showed us the kids hospital and informed us that they are in need of a neurosurgeon—so spread the word! Today, Bethany Kids was having a clinic for spina bifida and tomorrow it will be an open clinic. Billy was actually a patient there and was encouraged to see how far the hospital has come.
We then moved over to the AIC Kijabe hospital and walked through the different outpatient clinics. We were also informed that a hospital visit to Kijabe is $7. This price is much cheaper than a visit to a hospital in Nairobi (which is around $25) and is CLEARLY much cheaper than a visit to an American hospital.
The day came to an end with samosas and many rounds of Dutch Blitz. We are still loving every bit of living life here, but some homesickness might be creeping in!
Kwaheri!
